2019 in REVIEW
a message from BEAA’s Managing Director, Monica Adair
2019 was an exciting year as we built the foundation for Building Equality in Architecture Atlantic (BEAA). BEAA was launched in New Brunswick at the 2018 Royal Architecture Institute of Canada (RAIC) Festival in Saint John. BEAA has a mandate of supporting equality and diversity in the profession of Architecture through advocacy, community engagement, supporting minorities in Architecture and professional development.
5 BEA ATLANTIC GOALS FOR 2019
01 ATLANTIC CANADIAN ARCHITECTURE DATABASE
Over the course of 2019 BEA Atlantic established our membership in Atlantic Canada. This database intends to strengthen the connectivity of our regional community. You can join us on the BEA Atlantic Website at BEAAtlantic.com.
02 LAUNCH BEA ATLANTIC CANADIAN PROVINCIAL CHAPTERS
In order to effectively represent our region, provincial chapters for BEA Atlantic were launched across the provinces in 2019. Not only did we have wonderful launch events, but visioning sessions, programming, calls for volunteers, committee structuring, and programming is well underway as we wrap up the year.
03 TESTING THE MODEL – BEAT INITIATIVES IN ATLANTIC CANADA
Following in the footsteps of the successes of sister organization Building Equality in Architecture Toronto (BEAT), we held BEA TALKS, Mixers and Continuing Education sessions.
04 BEA ATLANTIC RETREAT
As away to work specific to an Atlantic Canada regional event, a retreat format was conceived in order to bring together a geographically wide network of people. Building Equality In Architecture Atlantic (BEA Atlantic) launched it’s first BEA Continuing Education Retreat weekend titled: Balance: Designing your own roadmap at the Algonquin Resort in St. Andrews-by-the-Sea, New Brunswick, September 27-29th, 2019 with great success.
05 RAIC BEA CONTINUING EDUCATION – ATLANTIC CANADA
In order for Atlantic Canada to be part of the larger ecosystem in Canada, we put forth a submission on behalf of BEA to support representation at RAIC Festival with speakers & relevant topics in the region. Discussions are underway for Continuing Education programming to occur in the New Year through 2020 Webdays hosted by the RAIC.
It was an ambitious year that was brought to life by so many people that care about making our profession great. We are proud to have launched a meaningful force for change in our region, where we believe we will continue to lead equality with an emphasis on quality.
Thank you to our sponsors that invested and believed in us, and for all the people that made it possible with their time, energy and care.
On behalf of our executive, we’re proud to be making change in Atlantic Canada together.
Sincerely,
Monica Adair, PARTNER, Acre Architects
